Need to Clean Your Oven Racks? All You Need Is Some Grass
We all have a love-hate relationship with our ovens. They’re so useful, yet cleaning them, especially the racks, is so tedious. So if you are looking for some easy tips to get those oven racks sparkling clean, try using grass! Yes, you read that correctly. This easy-to-follow hack is eco-friendly and will clean your racks while you sleep. Read on to find out how, and for more simple hacks.
Let Grass Do the Work
If you have a garden, get it to work for you. Take your oven racks out and leave them in some long grass overnight, and you’ll be amazed by the transformation the next day. No one knows what it is about the grass’s dew that softens up the burnt-on food bits, but it works!
If you aren’t comfortable using heavy chemicals on your racks, grass is a more eco-friendly method that does the trick. All that is needed the next day is a dry cloth to wipe the racks down after the dew has done its job.
Baking Soda or Vinegar
For people who don’t have access to a garden or grass, try using baking soda instead. It’s a non-toxic and easy-to-use method that’s effective when it comes to removing oven grease or burnt food. Baking soda is alkaline, and oven grease from food is acidic, so baking soda neutralizes acids and breaks down grease. This will allow you to simply wipe it up without too much elbow grease.
If you don’t have baking soda either, put some vinegar and water in equal amounts into a spray bottle and spritz it liberally over the racks, leaving it to sit for 30 minutes. Then, scrub the oven racks using a soft brush or sponge. Rinse them and leave them out to dry.
